Overview

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking a Program Director for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program (DMSP). The Program Director is responsible for the structure as well as the daily operation of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, including organization, administration, periodic review, and evaluation, continued development, and general effectiveness of program curricula.

The director oversees recruiting new students, securing program resources (to include space, equipment, and supplies), determining instructor salaries, and maintaining program budget. The director is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the program’s CAAHEP accreditation reporting and maintenance, including ongoing adherence to CAAHEP standards, completion of required annual reports, completion of periodic self-studies, and coordination with the provost’s office for all accreditation reviews.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee organization, administration, periodic review, evaluation, continued development, and general effectiveness of program curricula.
  • Manage daily operation including recruiting new students, securing program resources (space, equipment, and supplies), determining instructor salaries, and maintaining program budget.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the program’s CAAHEP accreditation reporting and maintenance, including adherence to standards, completion of annual reports, periodic self-studies, and liaison with the provost’s office for accreditation reviews.
  • Ensure effectiveness of clinical affiliates via regular visits/communications; create and update affiliate clinical site agreements for student clinical rotations.
  • Recruit, select, train, supervise and evaluate instructors and clinical coordinators; determine job descriptions and recommend salaries; recommend or dismiss employees based on performance.
  • Oversee admissions procedures including assessment of applicants and final decision making on individual admission status; maintain students’ files and records.
  • Monitor student progress and disciplinary issues as they arise; recommend or dismiss students based on performance.
  • Maintain, update and manage the student lifecycle to include the Student Manual and Master Plan, program schedule, orientations, session calendars, and program schedules; coordinate class schedules for all specialties; assign instructors to all classes.
  • Secure program resources and administer all financial management for the $1.2m program; monitor DMSP operating budget; maintain inventory of program resources including books, equipment, and supplies.
  • Participate in new marketing strategies for the program; plan program events; set up and conduct information sessions for prospective students.
  • Perform periodic review and evaluation of the program per NEC and CAAHEP Standards; ensure adherence to program objectives in accordance with standards and guidelines set by JRC-DMS and UMBC mission; maintain accreditation with CAAHEP through JRC-DMS; liaise with the Provost’s office for all accreditation requirements.
  • Represent UMBC and maintain communication with sonography professional organizations; attend program directors’ meetings and annual scientific sessions; maintain communication with Medical Directors and Guest Lecturers; chair Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required credentials
  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree
  • Hold appropriate sonography credentials - RDMS, RDCS (or RCS) or RVT (or RVS).
  • Candidates must be a graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Cardiac, Abdomen-Extended/OB-GYN or Vascular ultrasound program.
  • Two full-time clinical experience as a registered sonographer in the professional sonography field.
  • Five years of documented experience that reflects skills in management, supervision, instruction, student guidance, and/or evaluation, educational theories and techniques.
