Overview

The Recreation and Community Services Department creates a healthy community by providing spaces to learn and play, be safe and secure, and to imagine. This position supports youth and adult sports, after school programs, special events, and related activities as part of the City of Arcadia’s Recreation and Community Services Team.

The Position

The City of Arcadia is seeking passionate and motivated individuals to join our Recreation and Community Services Team. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently with confidence and have excellent customer service skills. This is a continuous recruitment and may close at any time.

Hourly Wage Information
  • Activity Leader I:
    Hourly: $16.00 - $17.66
  • Activity Leader II:
    Hourly: $16.81 - $18.55

ResponsibilitiesActivity Leader I
  • Supervise children participating in the school, camp, and playground programs.
  • Receive revenue from the public and maintain accurate financial and attendance records for the swimming pool; handle registration and refunds at the swimming pool.
  • Lead a variety of recreation activities.
  • Oversee park maintenance; perform light maintenance at facilities and parks including rest rooms, kitchen, and other areas.
  • Conduct day camp, sports camp, resident camp, and school activities.
  • Perform light gardening to maintain park appearance.
  • Assist in the supervision of community service workers.
  • Set up and supervise events at facilities and parks.
Activity Leader II
  • Assist in program planning and assigning the children’s roster for camp programs.
  • Order all necessary inventory.
  • Collect and deposit revenue from the craft program.
  • Assist with city-wide special events and excursions.
  • Conduct interpretive programs, including basic nature talks and tours.
  • Perform basic cleaning and light maintenance of facilities and parks, including rest rooms, kitchen, and other areas.
  • Set up and be lead supervisor of events at schools, facilities and parks.
  • Assist with clerical duties for various recreation programs.

QualificationsActivity Leader I
  • Experience:

    Some paid or volunteer recreation experience is desirable.
  • License or Certificate:
    Possession of, or ability to obtain, CPR and first aid certification.
  • Age Requirements:
    Sixteen (16) years of age or older at the time of appointment.
Activity Leader II
  • Experience:

    Two seasons of paid experience in the field of instruction or supervision of recreation or park management.
  • Training:
    Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
  • License or Certificate:
    Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license; CPR, first aid, AED, BBP and FEMA certifications.
  • Age Requirements:
    Eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of appointment.
Special Requirement

Essential duties require physical skills and exposure to heat, noise, and outdoors: ability to sit, stand, walk, crouch, stoop, squat, and lift 50 lbs.

The Selection Process:

Qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the selection process, which may include a qualifying written or performance evaluation and an interview weighted 100%. The City reserves the right to limit the number of interviews. Candidates will be notified by e-mail or telephone if they qualify to move to the next step. The interview score will determine ranking on the eligibility list and will remain in effect for one year.
