Educational Sign Language Interpreter

Seeking to hire an Educational American Sign Language Interpreter. This is a full‑time contract and must be fluent in American Sign Language interpretation.

• Associate's degree in deaf education, classroom interpreting, or similar, or an EIPA score of 3.5
• Child of a Deaf adult; child; family member, and related prerequisites
• Fluent in English and American Sign Language interpretation

• Experienced with classroom interpreting: provide sign language interpretive services as specified in the IEP.
• Interpret information, lectures, discussion, classroom activities, school meetings, trainings, and conferences.
• Adapt interpretations to the varying and diverse needs and abilities of students, teachers, and staff.
• Understand the educational and learning challenges deaf or hard of hearing students face on a daily basis.
• Communicate directly with students and peers.
• Prepare and study subject matter being taught or presented to ensure clear interpretation.
• Interpret informal conversations with students and staff during unstructured time.
• Participate as a team member for planning and reviewing daily activities, attending in‑services and information sharing to optimize staff and student participation in the educational environment.
• Provide staff with information regarding the interpretation process as well as needs and concerns of Deaf & Hard of Hearing teachers to create a positive Deaf‑friendly climate.
• Collaborate with Teachers of the D/HH, other classroom teachers, and other school staff to provide optimum educational opportunities.

Pay:
Starting at $30 per hour or based on experience.
