Hours of Appointment: up to 0.20 timebase (up to 8 hours/week)
Pay Rate: up to approx. $655.00/month

Teaching Associates typically provide classroom or laboratory instruction, create assignments, prepare course materials, administer examinations, assess student performance, tutor students, and determine course grades. They may also assist faculty with field experience, supervision, simulation exercises, and research projects.
Teaching Associates will teach at least one section of English 104:
Accelerated Composition & Rhetoric in the fall semester and may attend paid orientation sessions if available.
- Curriculum design and delivery for Accelerated Composition & Rhetoric course outcomes
- Syllabus design and lesson planning for rhetoric and composition
- Feedback and assessment of student writing and other assigned work
- Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of subject matter and ability to relate well and instruct students.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and concurrent admission or enrollment in a graduate program.
- Experience: Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
Note:
Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the discretion of Cal Poly Humboldt.
- Minimum Qualification for this position: Graduate students enrolled in Cal Poly Humboldt’s Applied English Studies MA program, committed to teaching writing, no incomplete grades.
- Preferred Qualifications: Ability to work with a diverse student population; additional training (ENGL 581, ENGL 450) encouraged.
- Preference for first-time qualified applicants; first-year MA students considered if they show evidence of preparation for first-year composition teaching.
