Cal Poly Humboldt is a Hispanic‑Serving Institution (HSI) that strives to foster an equitable and inclusive community supporting students of diverse backgrounds. The Department of Social Work invites applicants for a full‑time, academic‑year, tenure‑track faculty position with an emphasis on scholarship or practice that centers Native American knowledge and/or Anti‑Racist practice or scholarship. Candidates will teach in the Social Work bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, both on‑campus and online courses, as available.
ProfessionalDuties
Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence and to building a strong research record. Instructional assignments may include:
- Generalist and advanced generalist curriculum with an emphasis on rural and Native American populations, teaching across the curriculum.
- Teaching consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students.
The primary professional responsibilities are: teaching, research, scholarship, creative activity, and service to the university, profession, and community. Responsibilities include advising students, participation in campus and system‑wide communities, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions. Probationary faculty receive mentorship; during the first two years teaching responsibilities are reduced by approximately one course each semester to support research, scholarship, or creative activity.
Rank,Salary, and Benefits
The position is at the Assistant Professor rank; rank and salary depend on qualifications and experience. Assistant Professor Classification annual salary range: $74,652 – $158,688; anticipated starting salary: $84,000.
Qualifications- Record of training or experience in Social Work.
- Excellence or potential for university‑level teaching and a student‑centered learning environment.
- Evidence or potential for conducting and publishing original research in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Experience engaging with Native American Peoples, Latinx, Chicanx Communities, and/or other marginalized communities through scholarship, teaching, or practice.
- Experience teaching generalist Social Work courses using a variety of methodologies.
- Familiarity with critical social work theories and scholarship that centers Native American knowledge and/or Anti‑Racism.
- Demonstrated commitment to engagement with tribal communities and knowledges.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success in higher education.
- Record of, or potential for, involving students in research and scholarly activity.
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or license‑eligible.
- Experience (scholarship, practice, teaching) with rural communities.
- Distance (online) and campus learning and teaching experience.
- Experience developing and assessing programs that advance equitable and inclusive learning communities.
- Experience with CSWE accreditation.
- Post‑MSW work experience of at least two years.
Working in California is a condition of employment. Hiring employees to perform CSU‑related work outside of California is prohibited. Candidates must be able to accept on‑campus instruction and come to campus when required.
