Position OverviewWe invite applicants for a full‑time, academic‑year, tenure‑track faculty position with an emphasis in Media Arts, focusing on teaching film production from an interdisciplinary perspective. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of the new BFA in Media Arts, shape program direction, and engage with hybrid or collaborative practices intersecting Animation, Design, Sound, Photography, or other emerging media fields.
Professional DutiesPrimary responsibilities include:
- Teaching undergraduate courses in film production and interdisciplinary media arts (animation, design, sound, photography).
- Supporting capstone projects and collaborative, cross‑disciplinary work.
- Curriculum development, student advising, and shaping the Media Arts major.
- Research, scholarship, creative activity, and service to the university, profession, and community.
Assistant Professor rank. Annual salary range: $74,652 – $158,688; anticipated starting salary: $80,000.
QualificationsRequired:
- Record of training or experience in Media Arts.
- Excellence or clear potential for university‑level teaching in film production and interdisciplinary media arts.
- Broad knowledge of media art technologies, concepts, and practices.
- Professional achievement in Film, Animation, Design, Sound, or Photography (festivals, exhibitions, publications, commissions, awards).
- Experience working effectively with diverse student populations.
- Knowledge of issues affecting students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to design and update contemporary media arts curriculum.
- Commitment to collegiality and meaningful participation.
Preferred:
- Successful university teaching beyond the assistant‑level.
- Leadership or administration experience in arts or academic environment.
- Service or professional engagement in shared governance or institutional development.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration across programs or community partnerships.
- Letter of Application.
- Statement of Teaching Philosophy (including support for historically marginalized or minoritized students).
- Up to 20 examples of creative work (PDF, video links, timecodes).
- Example(s) of student work (10–15 examples, PDF, video links).
- Artist Statement.
- Teaching Evaluations and Peer Evaluations (if available).
- Sample syllabi of relevant courses (taught or proposed).
- Graduate Transcripts (unofficial acceptable).
- Names and contact information for three professional references.
