Job Details ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Customer Experience
  • Provide an exceptional shopping experience and friendly welcoming environment for all members, customers, and co‑workers
  • Greet and interact with customers at the register; model and ensure customers receive prompt, helpful, attentive, and authentically friendly service in accordance with the Co‑op’s customer service standards
  • Seek opportunities to exceed customer expectations and enhance the customer experience
  • Maintain awareness of promotions and advertisements to share information with customers and co‑workers
  • Maintain a calm, friendly, and professional demeanor with all customers and co‑workers in all situations
  • Offer to bag each customer’s groceries and proactively provide carry‑out assistance; assist customers with unloading/loading items into carts/baskets as needed
  • Investigate and respond to customer questions and requests promptly; elevate issues to a supervisor when necessary
Department Operations
  • Process customer transactions accurately, following proper procedures including use of tares, sale of alcoholic beverages, detection of counterfeit currency, use of PLUs and UPCs, and correct pricing
  • Follow all cash handling policies and procedures; understand and meet the expectations of the Cashier Accountability Policy found in the Cashier Manual
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all register functions and procedures and Front End operations
  • Accurately and efficiently balance the cash drawer
  • Answer phones, routing calls to appropriate staff and taking messages as needed
  • Process and create store charges and special orders
  • Assist in keeping the store clean, orderly, and organized, including but not limited to retrieving carts and baskets, maintaining floor and sidewalk cleanliness, cleaning spills, sweeping, spot‑mopping, dusting, wiping tables, parking‑lot cleaning, and trash/recycling disposal
  • Ensure smooth customer flow; assist other cashiers in bagging and other duties as needed to reduce wait time
  • Assist in new‑employee on‑the‑job training through job shadowing and new‑hire orientation of department processes as delegated by the supervisor
  • Participate in cross‑training by helping to train others on your position and by learning functions of other positions in the department
  • Become familiar with the products carried in all departments and their locations throughout the store
  • Organize tasks efficiently, prioritize, maintain focus, and stay productive
  • Achieve established goals and expected results for the department
  • Develop knowledge of the Co‑op’s membership structure; be informed about membership benefits and be able to explain them simply; process new memberships
  • Regularly check mailbox and/or email for important company communications and review posted memos
  • Attend and actively participate in department, store‑wide, organization‑wide meetings, and trainings as requested
  • Assist in other departments/store inventory counts, store‑wide cleaning, and perform all other duties as assigned
Sanitation & Safety
  • Maintain a safe work environment according to all department procedures, the Safety Manual, federal and state regulations
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required; understand and ensure safe use of equipment, safe lifting procedures, and proper ergonomics
  • Follow all sanitation and safe food handling procedures per California Health and Safety Code requirements – Retail Food Code
