What We Are Looking For
As a Senior Energy Storage Electrical Engineer, at PSE in our Madison, WI, St. Paul, MN or Denver, CO office, your primary responsibility will be to assist in the delivery of multidisciplinary Energy Storage System (ESS) projects through their feasibility, pre-construction, and construction phases with a specific focus on the electrical design aspects of projects. What You Will Be Doing

Embrace, uphold, and live out PSE’s core values around People, Problem-Solving, and Progress. - Lead the design and engineering efforts of energy storage projects and the integration of energy storage in microgrids and other distributed energy resources projects.
- Evaluate and analyze energy storage technologies, products, and vendors, and support clients with technology and vendor selection and implementation.
- Support developers, utilities, and other clients with identifying, defining, and implementing use-cases for energy storage systems.
- Working knowledge of sizing energy storage systems and techno-economic modeling using DER-CAM, UL Homer, and others.
- Develop code compliance documentation for energy storage projects using NFPA 855, NFPA 70, and UL9540/A, including hazard mitigation analysis, fire response plans, and operation and maintenance procedures.
- Experience with energy storage in both utility-scale and/or large industrial facilities, including battery technology/chemistry selection, battery sizing, one-line development, site arrangements, inverter selection, cable ampacity calculations, grounding, protective relaying, and associated systems design and construction administration (strongly preferred).
- Serve as PSE’s Subject Matter Expert on all things Energy Storage.
- Assist in leading and developing a high-performing team of engineers and technicians through mentorship.
- Act as a company representative at industry conferences, seminars, and networking events to enhance visibility, build relationships, and stay informed on industry trends.
- Develop and publish technical articles, white papers, and presentations to showcase expertise, contribute to thought leadership, and support business development efforts.
What You Will Need
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with Power Systems Focus
- 5+ years’ experience in electrical engineering with a minimum of 2+ years in energy storage electrical engineering
- PE (Professional Engineer) Licensure or ability to obtain within one year
- Experience in commercial & industrial electrical engineering is a plus
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering a plus
- NABCEP certification or willingness to obtain
Knowledge and Skills
- Experience with AutoCAD, PVsyst, SKM, ETAP, and SEL Relays
- Experience with NEC, IBC, IFC and other relevant codes
- Working knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards preferred
- Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resources
- Ability to achieve quality results, be change-oriented, foster innovation, and be a continuous learner
- Ability to identify and implement process or system improvements for efficiencies
- Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills for writing specifications and leading project discussions
