Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligible applicants must meet specific requirements per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval and award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications
  • United States citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy).
  • Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree (osteopathic medicine) from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Eligible residency programs: ACGME-accredited; OAH-accredited; or other non-U.S. programs followed by minimum five years of verified U.S. practice, as determined by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs who meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs). PRPs must hold a full license, may be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis, are not independent practitioners, and perform limited duties under supervision.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred experience:

  • Physical and mental ability to perform work duties efficiently, including up to two hours of sitting, standing, or walking, bending and reaching. Refer to VA Handbooks 5005 and 5019 for detailed physical standards.

Responsibilities
  • Manage medical care for a panel of veterans enrolled in primary care.
  • Use the electronic medical record system for documentation, workload capture, alert management, and review of veterans’ current and future medical care needs.
  • Serve as the leader of the Patient‑Aligned Care Team (PACT).
  • Cross‑cover for other medical providers as needed across the health care system.
  • Collaborate with PACT members to ensure overall safety and quality of each veteran’s care.
  • Maintain performance metrics related to patient quality of care.
  • Provide excellent customer service in all aspects of care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, quality assurance, continuous survey readiness, and committee/work groups.
  • Maintain licensure and certifications required for credentials and privileges at the OKC VAHCS.
  • Adhere to ethical and professional standards in the Medical Staff Bylaws and ensure compliance with facility standards and expectations.
  • Work schedule:

    Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (full time).
