The Specialty Account Coordinator is responsible for multiple facets of patient account coordination including insurance/benefit verification, denials management, and collections. The Coordinator also manages assistance programs such as drug copay cards, assisting patients in enrolling, monitoring services rendered, and billing the assistance programs for applicable funds. This position requires a thorough understanding of claims programs and procedures, insurance company regulations, ophthalmology coding and billing, and monitoring changes in pre-certification, documentation, and claims submission requirements.
Accuracy, attention to detail, and strong communication skills with physicians, staff, patients, and insurance companies are essential. The Coordinator serves as a resource for other staff and patients and consistently performs duties in accordance with Mercy Service Standards, mission, and values.
Position Details
- Education:
Some college hours in Business, Finance, and/or Accounting related courses preferred. - Experience:
A minimum of 3 years related experience required. - Skills & Knowledge:
Interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills; ability to work in stressful situations, meet deadlines, and perform daily responsibilities with consistent accuracy; use logic and good judgment to identify and initiate corrective actions; effective written and oral communication; ability to manage demanding situations with VBO and co‑workers.
