As a professional and patient-focused Medical Assistant, you will provide both administrative and clinical support to neurology providers, ensuring smooth patient flow, accurate documentation, and effective coordination of care. Medical Assistants provide comprehensive clinical and administrative support to promote high quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Preparation & Intake
  • Diligently prepare charts and prepare notes before patients’ arrival to ensure all required testing and documentation is completed
  • Provide routine support alongside providers and medical staff, ensuring superior patient care
  • Room patients for visits, collect vital signs, height, weight, and relevant patient history prior to provider visits
  • Review current medications, allergies, and preferred pharmacy
  • Ensure all necessary equipment is available and functioning; prepare, clean, and properly set-up machines and testing equipment
  • Protect patient rights by maintaining strict confidentiality of medical records
  • Assist with scheduling patient appointments, answering phones, field questions about medical issues, and identifying visit needs
  • Assist with tracking tests and lab reporting to ensure everything is received timely; keep patients informed on their condition and care
  • Assist in inventory management to ensure supplies are available when needed, reducing waste, and ensuring patient safety
Clinical Support
  • Assist providers during examinations, treatments, and procedures under direct supervision; administer injections as directed by the provider and within scope of practice
  • Perform medication reconciliation tasks under supervision, documenting medication changes and communicating these changes to the healthcare team for maintaining continuity of care and preventing medication errors
  • Assist in cognitive testing and sleep studies as directed by the provider
  • Ensure the observance of policies, procedures, and safety practices, including OSHA and HIPAA regulations
Documentation & Recordkeeping
  • Assist with managing patient messages, supporting providers by maintaining accurate and up-to-date electronic health records (such as, Epic and other HER systems)
  • Review and update patient records, ensuring completeness of ordered procedures and treatments
  • Maintain EMR files, perform computerized physician order entry when directed
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills
  • Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience:

    1 year of medical office experience in clinical support, medical support, or related fields preferred; medical running or EMR experience is a plus
  • Skills:

    Strong customer service, excellent organizational and time management abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Proficiency in typing with accuracy and speed for medical documentation, working with Microsoft Office and other productivity software
  • Soft Skills:

    Professionalism, empathy, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Certifications:

    Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or BLS certification preferred
  • Meets expectations of the core competencies: communication, customer service, ethical and legal requirements, infection control, medial office procedures, and safety
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs; prolonged sitting/standing and walking long distances
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
