Job Overview

This job description outlines the essential functions and requirements for the Cashier position at The Salvation Army Thrift Store. The incumbent may be asked to perform additional responsibilities as needed.

Essential Functions

Cashier and Customer Service (80%)

Assist customers by ringing up sales, collecting money, and providing receipts.

Count change, prepare and balance cash drawer.

Maintain cleanliness and security of the cash register area.

Ensure adequate stock of forms, bags, and supplies.

Provide a pleasant experience for all customers, whether making purchases or donations.

Assist with donations, including sorting and placing items on the sales floor.

Provide tax receipts upon request.

Arrange items on the sales floor and ensure displays are neat and orderly.

Rearrange stock as directed and return merchandise to proper areas.

Maintain cleanliness of display racks, shelves, floors, windows, and mirrors.

Answer the telephone courteously and professionally.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: High School diploma or G.E.D.

Certifications/Licenses: None required

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, grasp, push, pull, reach overhead, operate a telephone, and lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to understand written information. Accommodations are available for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a retail store environment with minimal physical discomfort related to weather; occasional exposure to noise, dust, and dirt. Additional hours may be required for outreach events or special programs, with schedules approved by the Family Store Manager.

The Cashier/Lead Sales Associate is expected to stay on property during working hours unless duties require otherwise.
