Description

The job of Teacher – High School is designed to provide support to the instructional process by serving as a high school teacher with responsibility for developing student success in academics, such as reading, writing, language, math, and other skills. The position includes supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas, developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines, and collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues.

The teacher also responds to inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress.

This position reports to Principal, High School.

Salary Range: $38,795.05 - $58,321.00

Applicant must submit a completed and signed Shonto Preparatory School application. The application package must include:
Cover Letter, Resume, Three (3) Letters of Recommendation, College Transcript and/or High School Diploma, GED Certificate, Arizona Department of Education Teaching Certificate, Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card, First Aid/CPR Certificate, Arizona State Driver’s License, and Certificate of Indian Blood (if applicable).

Selection Process

Complete and qualified applicants are forwarded to the department hiring kuko for interview scheduling. A selectee from the interview pool is recommended for hire and must be approved by the Shonto Governing Board of Education, Inc. Background checks, adjudication, and fingerprint clearance are conducted on all new hires. Continued employment is contingent upon the results of these background checks.

Essential Functions
  • Achieve a standard of excellence with work processes and outcomes for honoring شاشة school policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Administer subject-specific assessments to evaluate student competency and develop individual learning plans.
  • Advise parents/guardians on student progress and develop methods for improvement.
  • Assess student progress to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Maintain a helpful, respectful, approachable, and team-oriented environment.
  • Be receptive to feedback and willing to learn for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff and community resources to improve student outcomes.
  • Counsel students or refer them to appropriate personnel for performance improvement.
  • Demonstrate methods to perform classroom and subject assignments effectively.
  • Differentiates classroom work for individualized learning.
  • Directs teacher assistants, student teachers, volunteers, and/or student workers.
  • Instructs students to improve academics through a defined course of study.
  • Manages student behavior to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitors students in classroom, field trips, campus, and other environments for safety.
  • Participates in meetings to convey and gather information required to perform functions.
  • Participates in PLC (Professional Learning = Committee) to review data and instructional practices.
  • Performs  duties to ensure effective functioning of the textes unit.
  • Plans ahead, manages time, and is cost conscious to complete tasks effectively.
  • Prepares various materials to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Reports incidents to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies for safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, etc. to resolve issues and provide information.
  • Supports other classroom teachers in implementing curriculum and individual student plans.
