Navajo Preference Employment Act

OverviewPOSITION SUMMARY
This position is an established experienced position to obtain surgical technologist certification. It requires rotational scheduling and on‑call (night, weekend, and holiday) coverage. The position requires performing duties of a surgical technologist. Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
They possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine that knowledge with human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the implementation of tools and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. The technician assists with positioning, surgical prep, and draping of the surgical patient. Other responsibilities include setting up an operating room before surgery and ensuring all needed equipment and instrumentation is available and in working condition for the scheduled surgical procedure.
Surgical specialties include dental, endoscopy, general surgery, oral & maxillofacial surgery, orthopedic, otolaryngology/ENT, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology, podiatry, hand, trauma, urology, etc. for adult and pediatric patients.
- High School Diploma or GED
Must have completed and provide documentation of at least one of the following:
- Completion of an approved surgical technician training program accredited by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST)
- On the job training in a clinical healthcare setting or military specialty
- Must be certified within 6 months after 3‑year qualification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA 3yr) – or Surgical Technologist Certification (CST),

* * current certification from National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT‑3yr 6240 hours) – Certified Tech in Surgery (TS‑C) - Must maintain a current valid certification of the following throughout employment:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
At least nine (9) months of current experience in the specialties of dental, endoscopy, general surgery, oral & maxillofacial surgery, orthopedic, otolaryngology/ENT, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology, podiatry, hand, trauma, urology, etc. for adult and pediatric patients.

- Excellent customer service abilities with effective listening and communication skills
- Knowledge, ability, and experience to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field and equipment
