POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Chief Judge and immediate supervision of Court Administrator, performs duties as the protector and custodian of the Court. Ensures that the Jurors are protected from outside influences while in deliberation. Maintains custody of the defendants while they are in Court and any exhibits or evidence used in a trial. Responsible for the orderly management of the facilities and the persons in the Courtroom.

Serves summons, subpoenas, judgments or notices, order and all processes or communications when court is not in session.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Communicate effectively with the Judicial Clerks to coordinate the presence of the litigants, witnesses, jury, advocates and attorneys;
  • Informs the Judicial Clerk when the Courtroom is prepared for Court hearings;
  • Announces the Judge into the Courtroom and calls the Court to Order;
  • Makes sure all the parties to the action are present and in proper location within the Courtroom;
  • Swears in all witnesses during trial as requested or directed by the judge;
  • Provides security and maintains order while Court is in session and remains in the Courtroom until adjournment;
  • Calls or locates witnesses outside the Courtroom when ordered to testify;
  • Responsible for Jurors and prevents any interference during jury trial and deliberations;
  • Serves legal notices, subpoenas, summons, orders, or any other Court document for the Court;
  • Treats all matters before the Court and within the Judicial Department with proper confidentiality;
  • Assist Police Officers to escort prisoners in and/or out of the Courtroom;
  • Maintain records of legal notices and documents served, time of service and person served;
  • Must file records with Court Clerk daily to ensure the notification process has been properly documented;
  • Provides messenger services as needed by the Judge and members of the Court staff;
  • Must remain absolutely neutral toward all parties and attorneys involved;
  • Perform routine Clerk office duties as needed and available;
  • Supervisor over Bailiff and Process Server;
  • Train new Bailiff’s on court procedures;
  • New hire’s will shadow Lead Supervisor until supervisor decides they are ready to conduct court on their own.
  • Approve or deny leave submitted by Bailiff or Process Server;
  • Review timesheets submitted by Bailiff or Process Server;
  • Conduct employee evaluations;
  • Maintain sidewalks and court yard;
  • Keep jury room organized and clean;
  • Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or General Education Degree;
Or, gain GED within 3 years.

Knowledge of the Hualapai criminal justice system and community resources;

Knowledge of Hualapai Community cultural traditions and social issues;

Skills in operating modem general office equipment;

Valid driver's license and ability to pass MVR check;

Submit to and pass a pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screening.
