Sr. Maintenance Supervisor – Tails & Water

Position

Purpose:

Responsible for developing and supervising an effective team of maintenance supervisors and technicians to safely deliver tails & water equipment uptime and performance targets at the Pinto Valley Mine Site. The role oversees all maintenance activities associated with the tailings and water infrastructure, ensuring reliability, safety, and environmental compliance. It works closely with operations, supply chain, and technical service teams, and coordinates with external suppliers, contractors, and consultants.

    Suppliers, contractors, and service providers as needed for equipment technical support or outsourcing

Work Environment

Balance of field (70%) and office work (30%). Field work is performed in various areas, equipment, and plants specific to the Tails & Water facilities at Pinto Valley.

Position Responsibilities

Aligned with Capstone Copper Asset Management Framework (AMF) elements, the responsibilities include:

  • Health, Safety and Environment (20%) – Ensure safe work practices, compliance with mine safety standards, and adherence to environmental and regulatory requirements; promote a safe workplace; monitor certifications and compliance.
  • Develop an Effective Team of Maintenance Technicians (20%) – Structure a technically capable, engaged, efficient team; collaborate with operations, engineering, and reliability teams; develop skills matrix and training plans; provide coaching and performance feedback; resolve conflicts; supervise and mentor team members.
  • Supervise Execution of Maintenance Plans (20%) – Provide leadership and guidance for all scheduled and unscheduled T&W maintenance; achieve performance targets; develop preventive and predictive maintenance programs; lead daily maintenance activities; coordinate shutdowns, overhauls, and capital upgrade projects; manage inventory levels; report KPIs and drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage Maintenance Contractors & External Support (20%) – Review contractor performance; ensure compliance with guidelines; maintain work quality; evaluate in sourcing vs outsourcing; manage contracted equipment and consumables.
  • Manage and Report Budget and Expenses (20%) – Participate in budget development; monitor costs; identify cost reduction opportunities; review and report budget performance; highlight deviations and corrective actions.
Position Requirements Education Requirements
  • Required:

    HS Diploma or GED
  • Preferred:
    Certificate in mechanical or electrical disciplines
Years of Relevant Experience
  • Required:

    10+ years in the mining industry, including 3 years in a leadership capacity
  • Preferred: 10+ years in a fixed‑plant operational facility with 5 years in leadership
Technical Skills – Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Understanding of safety protocols in a mining or processing plant environment
  • Knowledge of supervision, training, performance evaluation, and contractor management principles
  • Intermediate budget preparation, monitoring, and administration skills
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, P&IDs, work plans, and equipment specifications
  • Understanding of ERP work‑management processes
  • Knowledge of Lean Maintenance methodologies
  • Strong understanding of tailings management systems, slurry pumping, water reclaim, and pipeline operations
  • Valid US driver’s license (AZ license required)
  • Proficient in English speaking, comprehension, and writing
