Salary range: DEPENDENT ON EXPERIENCE (DOE)

Essential Duties, Functions And Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients’ preoperative physical status by evaluation of clinical history, physical examination and laboratory and other para-clinical studies as to determine the degree of risk involved in the planned procedures. Accordingly chooses the anesthetic technique and agents and plans the anesthetic management to suit the patient’s condition, wishes and the surgical demands.
  • Interviews the patients to further evaluate their physical status, discuss the type of anesthesia and reassures the patients. Selects and orders preoperative medication.
  • Induces, maintains and manages general anesthesia by rectal, parenteral or inhalation routes, with or without endotracheal intubation. Performs regional anesthesia.
  • Monitors and supports vital functions. Assists the obstetrician by providing anesthesia for patients in labor, while maintaining the wellbeing of the fetus.
  • Facilitates the surgeon’s task by means of muscle relaxation, hyperventilation and other special techniques.
  • Ensures the patient regains control of own vital functions at the end of the procedure by reversing drugs with the adequate antagonist, facilitating the elimination of gaseous or volatile agents and other accepted procedures.
  • Participates in the immediate post-anesthetic care, especially in maintaining adequate airway, ventilation and oxygenation during this critical period.
  • Follows up patients in the post-operative period for post-anesthetic complications.
  • Participates in the evaluation and management of respiratory problems in the critical care areas and emergencies.
  • Provides standard anesthesia care to patients of all age groups.
  • Participates in the retrospective evaluation of the quality of anesthesia care through the Peer Review process of the Medical staff.
  • Maintains patient care and Anesthesia Department documentation of practice standards of the Health Care Finance Administration/Joint Commission, the Hospital and of professional licensing organizations.
  • Participates in a minimum of 40 hours of approved continuing education every two years, maintains a substantial anesthesia practice and maintains a current state license. Performs other duties as assigned, including on-call assignments.

Experience

Minimum Mandatory Qualifications

  • No additional experience required outside of a completed training program as identified in the education qualifications listed below.

Education

  • Completion of an American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) accredited program.

Licensure/ Certifications

  • Active National Board Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (NBCRNA) Certification.
  • Active, unrestricted Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist license in any U.S. State or Territory.
  • Valid Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and maintain certifications.
