The Road Engineer II safely operates the company’s locomotives at a high skill and safety level, also responsible for their care and operation with or without a train.

• Completes responsibilities in a manner that will ensure the safety of passengers, employees and the general public at an efficient cost to the company.
• Safely operates diesel locomotives and related equipment.
• Oversees train crew members when the Conductor is not available.
• Communicates effectively and intelligently (train announcements, reports, written items, face‑to‑face, telephonically and over the radio) with the public, passengers, potential passengers, business associates, and company employees to work effectively with others.
• Works safely with little or no direct supervision and in any weather conditions.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Must have a current Conductor or Engineer certificate. Yard or Road is sufficient.
• Must have completed all qualified conductor or engineer training.
• Must be at least 19 years of age.

• Previous experience as a Locomotive Engineer or Conductor.
• First Aid/CPR Certification.

• Heavy work, lifting and pulling up to 60 pounds occasionally and team lifting to 100 pounds on a rare basis.
• Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on a daily/consistent basis.
• Walking long distances over uneven terrain.
• Ability to recognize and interpret audible, visual and olfactory conditions, signals and warnings.
• Ability to distinguish colors, signals and/or signs from a distance, at night and/or in poor lighting conditions.
• Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis.
