Position Summary

Oversees the City’s building inspection, permitting, and code enforcement programs. Ensures compliance with all adopted building and safety codes while providing guidance to contractors, developers, and residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages all aspects of permitting, inspections, and contractor licensing.
  • Reviews construction plans and specifications for code compliance.
  • Coordinates enforcement of property maintenance, nuisance, and dangerous structure codes.
  • Provides technical support for redevelopment and rehabilitation projects.
  • Works closely with Fire and Environmental Services on life‑safety compliance.
  • Maintains accurate records and ensures proper issuance of permits and certificates.
Education and Experience
  • Associate degree in Construction Technology or related field;
    Bachelor’s preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in building inspection, construction management, or related field, including supervisory experience.
Certifications / Licenses
  • ICC Certified Building Official (CBO) required.
  • Additional ICC certifications in residential and commercial inspections preferred.
  • Valid Kansas driver’s license required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough understanding of building codes, safety regulations, and construction practices.
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Skill in interpreting complex plans and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, property owners, and the public.
