Summary ofJob Duties
Science Tutors work on campus at the Learning Center under the supervision of the Coordinator of Tutoring Services. Tutors assist UACCM students in becoming more successful and independent learners by integrating effective learning strategies and reinforcing course content, assignments, and material. Science tutoring covers areas such as Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II and Biology, primarily during fall and/or spring semesters when classes are in session and according to student need.
Responsibilities- Provide content and skill‑development tutoring to individuals and small groups.
- Maintain records of student use of tutoring services.
- Develop tutoring materials and strategies to support student success.
- Proactively promote tutoring services.
- Create a welcoming environment conducive to learning.
- Develop a good understanding of college services, supports, and resources.
- Make appropriate student referrals to college offices, departments, or professionals when necessary.
- Complete required trainings and development assignments.
- Act with integrity in a courteous and professional manner.
- Comply with all federal laws and college policies regarding student privacy.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
- Completion of a minimum of 12 college credit hours.
- Recorded B or higher in natural science related courses with an overall 3.0 cumulative GPA, as evidenced by a college transcript.
- Completion of an associate’s degree or higher in a natural science related field.
- Prior work experience providing tutoring services.
- Proficient knowledge in course content being tutored, such as Biology and Human Anatomy and Physiology.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer software applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to problem‑solve, organize, prioritize work, multi‑task, and adapt to change.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively with a team to achieve goals.
- Ability to work effectively with employees and students of diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Physical ability to move about freely within the Learning Center environment.
Pay Range: $12 to $18 per hour, dependent on the ability to meet minimum and preferred qualifications.
