Position:
Allied Health Counselor (Full-Time, Tenure-Track) Fresno City College. Join the Faculty at Fresno City College, a Hispanic-Serving Institution, to serve a diverse student body.

Overview

Allied Health Counselor responsibilities include academic, career, and personal counseling, teaching discipline‑specific courses, and collaborating with faculty and community partners. The role supports student success through culturally responsive practices, equity‑focused initiatives, and comprehensive student service.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive counseling services for students including academic, career, personal, and life transitions counseling on an appointment basis
  • Provide group counseling sessions, orientations, and workshops
  • Assist students in clarifying educational goals, selecting courses, and developing Student Educational Plans (SEPs)
  • Monitor student progress through comprehensive electronic data systems
  • Maintain close working relationships with program and other instructional faculty, feeder high schools, and community resources agencies
  • Work with a diverse population of students to emphasize strategies for educational planning and transfer preparation
  • Collaborate with instructional and counseling faculty, staff from other departments and programs, including Financial Aid, Admissions and Records, EOPS/CARE, DSP&S, CalWORKs, Puente, UMOJA, USEAA, Veterans/International, TRiO, Student Support Services, College Relations and Outreach, and other programs
  • Utilize and keep abreast of advanced counseling methods and student development theories that include integrating technology to support student learning and identification of career objectives
  • Provide counseling support specific to the needs of students on academic probation or disqualification
  • Conduct intake interviews, assessment interpretation, and use of multiple measures to refer students to the appropriate English and Math placements
  • Participate in the implementation of transfer and matriculation activities
  • Participate in outreach activities in the community and on campus
  • Utilize and interpret a variety of career assessment tools
  • Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed
  • Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning
  • Provide services in a variety of settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off‑campus as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

  • Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling; or
  • A valid California Community College Credential; or
  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency)

Note: If the degrees posted on your transcript(s) do not match exactly as stated, you must petition for equivalency. A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage racially minoritized students
  • Related professional experience
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers and other technologies used in providing high‑quality instruction and support
