Description
:
The English Department accepts applications for part‑time Non‑Tenure Track (NTT) faculty to teach in its first‑year Writing & Composition Program on a rolling basis. Successful candidates may be offered up to two sections of Composition II (a required Core course focusing on rhetorical inquiry and research‑based writing) or Composition I (helps students build comfort with college‑level writing through writing process, rhetorical reading, and critical language awareness).

Composition courses are capped at 16 students to support the Jesuit principle cura personalis, care for the whole person.

We seek instructors who are familiar with current, research‑based best practices in college writing pedagogy, especially inclusive and antiracist approaches, and can apply them to foster engaging, equitable teaching and learning environments in concert with Fordham’s Jesuit mission and its strategic plan to educate for racial justice. Candidates should center their teaching experience, philosophy, and practice in application materials.

Part‑time NTT instructors are represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). The per‑course rate for new instructors as of August 1, 2023 is $7,950. Instructors may teach a maximum of two courses per semester at either or both of Fordham’s two main campuses, based on department need. Rose Hill has the larger student body; priority may be given to those who prioritize Rose Hill or are open to teaching at either campus.

Occasionally, the department hires part‑time NTT faculty to teach Texts & Contexts or rare Advanced Literature Core electives. Interested applicants should submit tailored materials through Interfolio. Because applications are reviewed as hiring needs arise, you may not receive an immediate response.

Qualifications
  • Terminal degree (PhD or MFA) required for new hires.
  • Minimum of one year experience teaching first‑year writing courses at the college or university level.
  • Experience working with and teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student‑centered best practices in teaching writing, including revision, peer review, individual conferencing, and more.
