Faculty in the role of Mathematics Instructor are eligible to apply for the additional duties of Freshman Math Coordinator. These duties are compensated by an additional salary that is added to the base salary and are in addition to the duties of Mathematics Instructor. If the arrangement is discontinued by either party, the salary will return to the amount it would have been without the math coordinator duties.

The Freshman Math Coordinator, in consultation with the mathematics faculty, will set the semester pacing guides for Mathematical Reasoning and College Algebra, providing a semester calendar for each course with and without remediation. Additionally and in consultation with the mathematics faculty, the coordinator will maintain the common syllabus for each of these sections, updating as necessary.

The Freshman Math Coordinator, with the assistance of the faculty and the Dean of Caver College, will gather data related to student success at multiple points in the semester for the purpose of facilitating student academic interventions and providing students with adequate resources. This data may include attendance, test grades, individual overall grades for students in each section, tests missed, procurement of appropriate access codes, or other data that is relevant to student success in these courses.

The Freshman Math Coordinator will work with the faculty to hold meetings at multiple points in the semester to review the data collected and to discuss strategies and resources that may be necessary for student success. These meetings will also focus on best practices for mathematics remediations.

The Freshman Mathematics Coordinator will work with the Dean of Caver College, the Reddie Student Success Center, and other offices across campus to implement strategies for student success in mathematics, including planning academic interventions, providing tutoring, and coordinating mathematics study sessions.

The Freshman Mathematics Coordinator will work with the deans and chairs across campus to determine the best alignment of course content with program requirements to ensure that degree plans indicate mathematics courses that best serve each major.

The Freshman Math Coordinator is a member of the Caver College of Aviation, Science, and Nursing, reporting directly to the Dean of the college. The Freshman Math Coordinator is a member of the mathematics faculty and does not hold disciplinary authority over the mathematics faculty. As part of their regular duties, mathematics faculty are expected to assist the coordinator with data and input as needed.

Applicants must submit a written statement outlining their proposed approach to fulfilling the responsibilities of the position. The statement should include initial recommendations for improving mathematics placement and student retention, as well as strategies for ensuring the long-term sustainability of these initiatives, including data collection, workload management, and cross-departmental collaboration.

Master’s degree with graduate hours or teaching experience in math or math education and strong desire and skills to be a faculty leader.
