The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Employees in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions and takes action to resolve.

This position is eligible for Exempt Supplemental Compensation for applicable project support, and it will be applied in accordance with Duke Energy Compensation Policies.

Duke Energy Turbine and Generator Services (TGS) exists to provide programmatic engineering and technical support to the fleet of turbines and generators. We embrace and diligently pursue the vision of zero major events for these centerline assets resulting in substantial and sustained improvements in station availability/reliability and exceptional long‑term shareholder value. TGS is committed to relentlessly and purposefully leveraging people, organizations, information, technology, and analytical techniques to identify, evaluate and address any issue that could contribute to a major event.

Generator Engineers provide frontline engineering support for generator centerline equipment. This involves direct technical engagement and coordination with plant operations, engineering, and technical support functions; other internal technical support organizations; OEMs; vendors; shops and other resources as required. Generator Engineers interface and coordinate with multiple organizations and individuals to ensure that major maintenance on generators is prioritized and scheduled correctly based on maintenance history, existing technical issues, and asset maintenance interval;

achieves specified outage goals; is in accordance with all applicable specifications and requirements; is accomplished with only approved parts and repair/assembly techniques; complies with all required inspections and hold points; is executed with tasks in the correct order; and is completely and accurately documented.

Generator Engineers develop detailed outage work scope requirements/documentation and engage in many other engineering and technical support activities to directly support the operations, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of reliability on the generator assets. Generator Engineers provide a significant ‘boots on the ground’ engineering presence during planned or emergent outages and other significant events or evolutions on the generator centerline assets. When not directly supporting onsite work, the Generator Engineer is engaged in planning, research, reviews, root cause analysis, documentation, etc.

to support the availability, reliability, and major maintenance planning for these assets. Generators Engineers are considered the “technical owner” of the generator, exciter, and generator auxiliary systems and would be responsible for reliable performance of these components.

  • Monitoring computer trends to assess equipment condition and influence future work plans
  • Evaluating Monitoring & Diagnostic Center notifications and providing recommended actions to stations
  • Performing station walkdowns to identify reliability risks and providing actions to stations to resolve
  • Providing station support for emergent events or operational questions/challenges
  • Writing procurement specifications for major work, including bid evaluation and ranking
