This crucial role focuses on ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant ventilation systems for underground mining operations across various global sites. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in mine ventilation design, airflow modeling, dust and gas control, and thermal environment management.
You will be responsible for developing ventilation strategies, conducting site assessments remotely, and providing expert technical guidance to site-based teams. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced professional to leverage their specialized skills in a remote-first environment, contributing directly to the health and safety of mine workers while optimizing operational conditions from anywhere in the world.
- Design, analyze, and optimize mine ventilation systems, including fan selection, ducting, and airflow distribution strategies.
- Develop and implement strategies for controlling airborne contaminants such as dust, gases (e.g., radon, methane), and fumes.
- Perform thermal environment assessments and develop solutions for heat management in underground mines.
- Utilize advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software for ventilation network modeling and simulation (e.g., Ventsim, Minescape Ventilation).
- Conduct remote site assessments using provided data, drone imagery, and consultations with site personnel.
- Develop and maintain ventilation databases, standards, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations related to mine ventilation.
- Provide expert technical support and training to site engineers and operational teams via virtual platforms.
- Collaborate with mine planning and engineering departments to integrate ventilation requirements into mine design and operations.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, specifications, and recommendations for ventilation upgrades and modifications.
- Investigate ventilation-related incidents and recommend preventative measures.
- Stay current with advancements in mine ventilation technology and methodologies.
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- A Master's degree with a specialization in ventilation is preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of direct experience in mine ventilation engineering, specifically within underground mining operations.
- Proficiency in mine ventilation modeling software such as Ventsim DESIGN, Minescape Ventilation, or similar CFD tools.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, psychrometrics, and air quality management principles in mining.
- Experience with dust suppression techniques and gas monitoring systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information effectively to diverse audiences via remote communication channels.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently in a remote setting.
