Overview
Feed Mill Supervisor at Butterball leads the day‑to‑day operations of a modern automated Feed Mill, including preventive maintenance, ingredient receiving, feed manufacturing, feed loadout, delivery, quality control and production cost optimization. The supervisor enforces safety procedures, coordinates cross‑functional inventory monitoring and drives continuous improvement across the facility.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise a team of entry‑level operators, providing coaching, guidance and support to ensure tasks are completed successfully.
- Maintain best manufacturing practices, ensuring compliance with FDA, regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Participate in HR activities: hiring, terminations, performance management, goal setting, scheduling, and enforcement of policies.
- Promote safety through meetings, training, documentation and incident reporting.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot operational issues, report performance and recommend improvements.
- Control operational costs, monitor and reduce shrink in ingredients and finished feed.
- Ensure HACCP and other quality control procedures are followed for ingredients and finished products.
- Oversee housekeeping and cleanliness of the mill, and supervise equipment maintenance to prevent downtime.
- Document execution of the preventative maintenance program and coordinate repairs.
- Maintain accurate records, including inventory, production reports and safety audits.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- 4+ years of relevant experience (technical or supervisory in a food/feed production environment).
- 1+ year of leadership experience.
- Strong leadership with coaching, support and motivation skills.
- Experience in a Feed Mill setting and understanding of automated operations and necessary maintenance.
- Working knowledge of feed mill operations and safety/regulatory compliance.
- Excellent communication, organization, time‑management, problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
- Ability to interpret and educate on standard policies and practices.
- Adaptability to shifting priorities and effective use of Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
- Experience in mechanical supervision.
- Regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel and use hands and fingers; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Work performed in a climate‑controlled office and a manufacturing plant with varying conditions (cold, wet, hot, dusty, chemicals).
- Must wear protective equipment in the manufacturing environment; noise may exceed 85 dBA with required hearing protection.
- Occasional travel may be required.
