Aircraft Maintenance Engineer – Ministry of Natural Resources
Join the Provincial Services Division – Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services Branch in Ontario. We are looking for a motivated, team‑oriented engineer with a valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer licence (M1 and/or M2) to maintain our provincial air fleet.
Salary: $39.07 – $42.63 per hour*
Job Term: 2 years, Permanent
About the JobIn this role, you will:
- Maintain the ministry’s provincial air fleet in an airworthy condition in accordance with regulations established by Transport Canada airworthiness manuals, air navigation orders, air regulation and directions issued by Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES).
- Analyze pilot reported flight defects.
- Assist pilots with loading aircraft and securing cargo.
- Install and remove special or environmental aircraft equipment.
- Maintain accurate aircraft maintenance records.
- Valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer licence rated at category M1 and/or M2.
- Valid class ‘G’ driver’s licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario.
- Valid restricted radio operator’s certificate (aeronautical) or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to obtain a valid passport and airport security clearance per Transport Canada Requirements.
- Capability to handle a high degree of physical exertion to lift and manipulate aircraft components, and a high degree of coordination and dexterity.
- Working knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and standards relating to aircraft maintenance services.
- Experience in repair and diagnosing defects in engines, flight systems, hydraulic systems, avionics systems, undercarriage systems and propulsion systems.
- Ability to use precision tools, hand tools and related aircraft test equipment.
- Ability to carry out minor and major repairs on aircraft.
- Ability to interpret engineering schematics, wiring diagrams, directives and instructions.
- Proficiency in technical problem‑solving and decision‑making to analyze and provide appropriate maintenance requirements.
- Ability to interpret and follow manufacturers’ and regulatory instructions.
- Proven communication skills to interact with clients and other ministry staff.
- Ability to work with a computerized maintenance system and accurately maintain hard copy files.
- Work within the guidelines of ministry policy and procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision.
- Ability to carry out tasks assigned in a timely manner.
