Special Education Teacher - Long Term Substitute, Middle School Therapeutic Program

To provide special education instruction and support for students in a substantially separate therapeutic classroom according to the Arlington Public School curriculum and Massachusetts standards. This is a long term substitute position from January - February 2026.

• Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Teacher in either Moderate or Severe Disabilities
• Degree in Education preferred
• Experience working with students at the Middle School Level

Responsible for planning instruction and curriculum modifications for included special needs students that allow students to meet high standards and success in typical settings.

• Provide direct instruction to students, both within the regular education classroom and outside the regular education classroom. This includes planning and teaching along with the regular classroom teacher in an inclusive regular education setting.
• Plan and modify regular curriculum.
• Consult with regular education staff.
• Monitor student progress in regular education program.
• Develop IEP, determine goals and objectives.
• Prepare progress reports.
• Organize and chair team meetings and other meetings.
• Administer testing for evaluations and end of term/end of year reporting.
• Maintain contact with parents.
• Attend building learning team meetings.
• Direct the work of teaching assistants.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by Building Principal and/or Special Education Administrator.
