Operations Manager, Civil Engineering
Business Development Director at Ellaway Blues Consulting Role Overview
The Construction Supervisor serves as a key on-site representative for the owner, providing day-to-day oversight of construction activities on complex industrial projects. This role partners closely with EPCM teams and construction contractors to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with approved designs, quality requirements, and schedule commitments.
Rather than directly supervising craft labor, the Construction Supervisor focuses on field coordination, interface management, and execution oversight—supporting successful delivery from construction through turnover and commissioning. The role also provides valuable field feedback to engineering, QA/QC, and commissioning teams to ensure systems are constructed correctly and handed over ready for operation.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee daily construction activities through direct engagement with contractor and EPCM field leadership, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and design requirements
- Act as the primary field interface between the owner’s team, EPCM site management, QA/QC, EHS, and commissioning groups to align priorities and resolve issues efficiently
- Provide constructability, sequencing, and readiness input during work package planning and field execution
- Monitor progress and productivity, maintaining daily field reports and escalating schedule or execution risks with practical mitigation recommendations
- Verify construction work aligns with approved drawings, specifications, and work packages; support QA/QC inspections, ITR reviews, and non-conformance resolution
- Participate in and lead routine field safety walks, reinforcing a strong safety culture and proactive hazard awareness
- Maintain accurate field documentation including daily logs, redlines, and change records to support traceability and system turnover
- Confirm contractors have adequate manpower, tools, and materials to meet planned milestones; elevate deficiencies as needed
- Coordinate closely with commissioning and completions teams to ensure systems reach construction completion and are prepared for pre-commissioning activities
- Support system cleaning, blowdowns, flushing, and verification activities in coordination with contractors and commissioning teams
- Review and walk down work packages with contractor supervision to ensure scope clarity, constructability, and readiness for execution
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior field personnel, strengthening overall site execution capability
- 7+ years of experience in field construction supervision on industrial or capital projects
- Broad understanding of multi-discipline construction scopes, including mechanical, piping, structural, and electrical work
- Proven experience working alongside contractors, QA/QC, and engineering teams in active construction environments
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, isometrics, and P&IDs
- Working knowledge of construction management systems and tools (e.g., Procore, completions or turnover platforms)
- Proficiency with standard business software including Excel and Outlook
- Confident field presence with the ability to influence without direct authority
- Clear, professional communication skills across multiple disciplines and organizations
- Strong situational awareness with a proactive approach to safety and risk management
- Hands‑on, detail‑oriented problem solver comfortable in fast‑paced field conditions
- Ability to maintain accountability while fostering a collaborative, solutions‑focused culture
