The Junior Apparel Designer is responsible for creating original, on-brand clothing designs that align with seasonal trends, customer needs, and business objectives. This role blends creativity, technical expertise, and market knowledge to develop collections that are innovative, functional, and commercially viable.
Responsibilities
Design & Concept Development
- Research seasonal trends, colors, fabrics, and silhouettes to create compelling apparel collections.
- Develop mood boards, sketches, and CAD illustrations that reflect the brand’s vision.
- Present design concepts and participate in line reviews with cross-functional teams.
Technical Development
- Create detailed tech packs and specifications for each design.
- Collaborate with pattern makers, product developers, and vendors to ensure accurate execution.
- Review and fit prototypes/samples, providing clear notes and revisions to achieve final approval.
- Analyze competitors and customer insights to design products that meet market demand.
- Balance creativity with commercial appeal and cost considerations.
- Partner with merchandising, sourcing, and production teams to meet design, quality, and delivery goals.
- Work closely with marketing to provide creative assets for campaigns and product launches.
Quality & Brand Consistency
- Ensure all designs reflect the brand’s identity and meet established quality standards.
- Continuously explore new techniques, trims, and finishes to keep the assortment fresh and competitive.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5+ years of experience designing apparel (specific category experience is a plus, e.g., womenswear, menswear, kidswear, active wear).
- Strong design portfolio showcasing creativity, technical skill, and trend awareness.
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other design software.
- Knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, and textiles.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
