Reporting to the Lead Technician, the Audio Technician – Special Events supports all live and recorded sound needs across the National Medal of Honor Museum, including the theatre, conferences, ceremonies, and private events. This position plays a key role in ensuring high-quality audio experiences for all guests and participants, while also supporting event-related audiovisual setups.
The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience in event production, hotel or conference A/V operations, or live sound engineering, thrives in a fast‑paced, high‑profile environment.
Essential Functions- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all audio systems used in museum events, including microphones, speakers, soundboards, and recording equipment.
- Provide on‑site audio engineering support for a variety of special events, conferences, and ceremonies — including setup, sound checks, and live mixing.
- Collaborate with the Venue Technology Manager and Events team to plan and execute technical requirements for internal and external events.
- Support audiovisual components of museum programs, including projection, lighting, and presentation systems.
- Conduct daily system checks of all event‑related A/V equipment to ensure full functionality.
- Maintain organized and accurate equipment inventories and assist with repair, replacement, and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Serve as the on‑site liaison for third‑party production vendors and assist in coordinating external technical services when needed.
- Assist in basic IT support related to event technology (e.g., connectivity for presentation laptops, video conferencing systems, or digital signage).
- Maintain a working knowledge of venue spaces and recommend optimal audio setups for various room configurations.
- Uphold all safety and compliance standards, ensuring proper cable management and adherence to venue policies.
- Support museum‑wide technology operations as assigned by the Venue Technology Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- To perform this role successfully, candidates should demonstrate expertise in live sound and event production along with strong customer service and troubleshooting abilities.
- 1–3 years of hands‑on experience in live audio production, A/V event support, or hotel/conference services.
- Experience operating digital and analog audio consoles, wireless microphone systems, and playback devices.
- Working knowledge of projection systems, video distribution, and presentation technologies preferred.
- Strong understanding of signal flow, gain structure, and audio troubleshooting techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work professionally with clients, speakers, and vendors.
- Organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple event setups simultaneously.
- Comfortable working nights, weekends, and holidays to support the museum’s event schedule.
- Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds and safely handle technical equipment.
- Experience in a museum, hotel, or conference center environment highly desirable.
- Technical certifications in A/V or sound engineering (CTS, Dante, etc.) a plus.
This position is part time as needed for special events.
