Academic Advisor II

Location:

Arlington, TX

Position Status:
Full-time

Work Schedule:

Monday‑Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct academic advising for current and prospective students using in‑person, virtual, phone, and email modalities.
  • Provide guidance on degree requirements, course selection, and help students set and achieve educational and career goals.
  • Teach students how to track academic progress, locate and interpret policies, and use available tools and resources.
  • Monitor the academic progress of a student caseload, providing just‑in‑time assistance and proactive outreach.
  • Verify degree progress, remove holds, and approve forms to ensure timely student progression.
  • Analyze and interpret student data, transcripts, and placement results, documenting appointments in MyMav.
  • Engage in recruitment and retention activities.
  • Maintain understanding of federal, state, and university policies, and refer students to counseling, tutoring, and other support services.
  • Participate in meetings, professional conferences, and pursue individual professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of advising experience with college students or adolescents, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree strongly preferred; two (2) years of experience as an academic advisor at a public R1 university.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge: Federal, state, and local policies governing academic advising; academic advising associations such as NACADA and TEXAAN;
    University Catalog.
  • Skill: Student advocacy; written and verbal communication; organizational and project management; problem solving; meeting deadlines; initiative; student recruitment and outreach; use of student information systems.
  • Ability: Work professionally, collaboratively, and independently; proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
Other Requirements
  • Demonstrated willingness and experience working collaboratively with students and co‑workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and experiences.
  • Completion of a criminal background check as required by university policy.
