The Department of Physics in the College of Science, at the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications for a Professor and Department Chair, Tenure.
This position is expected to start September 1, 2026.

The Department Chair of Physics in the College of Science serves a vital leadership role, providing direction, oversight, and advocacy for the department while acting as the key liaison between faculty and university administration. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Science, the Chair is responsible for the effective management of academic programs, personnel, budgets, research infrastructure, and student-related matters.
The Chair fosters a culture of excellence in teaching, research, and service, while promoting collegiality and shared governance. They support faculty development, mentorship, and scholarly achievement, including efforts to secure external funding and expand research initiatives. The Chair plays an active role in facilitating collaborative research opportunities across disciplines, with government agencies, industry partners, and other academic institutions.
In addition, the Chair leads strategic planning for the department, ensures alignment with college and university goals, and advocates for the department’s needs and priorities. They also work to enhance student success through recruitment, retention, advising, and graduation initiatives.
