Position Summary

The Quality Systems CMM Specialist is responsible for providing technical support to operations, engineering, and quality departments and supporting key Root Cause Corrective Action and Advanced Product Quality Planning activities. The position requires a strong understanding of converting customers’ 3D representation to IGES format and PC‑DMIS
2014 or higher (IGES electronic model translation), as well as a strong working knowledge of CATIA V5. The incumbent must have 2 years or more experience in Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programming and operational use, and be proficient in using basic inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and be familiar with calibration requirements and activities associated with those tools.

Primary

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Understand, adhere to, and demonstrate the company’s commitment to quality and safety.
  • Coordinate with Quality Control, Manufacturing Engineering, and Operations to provide technical support.
  • Review manufacturing and inspection processes and facilitate improvement and corrective action activities for existing products and during First Article Inspections.
  • Assimilate information to enhance RCCA and continuous improvement processes via process capability studies.
  • Provide technical risk assessment during Contract Review Process.
  • Lead and participate in the development of PFMEAs, Control Plans, and MSAs.
  • Provide production support (special assignments/projects, troubleshooting, tooling, etc.).
  • Using IGES/CATIA electronic datasets, generate PC‑DMIS CMM program inspection routines as required.
  • Build CAT product within CATIA for CMM fixturing.
  • Create CATIA drawings from Model Based Definition (MBD) designs.
  • Validate CATIA 3D designs for internal use.
  • Conduct CMM Measurement System Analysis (MSA)/Gage R&R studies as required.
  • Inspect detailed machined parts and/or assemblies for conformity to design parameters using engineering drawings, specifications, etc. Indicate acceptance or rejection on production documentation.
  • Complete final inspection and AS9102 first article inspection sheets documenting product conformity.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of quality assurance procedure requirements as they apply to inspection and manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure that product/material conformity documentation received from subcontractors satisfies engineering specifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
  • Experience using Minitab.
  • Extensive experience with GD&T.
  • Experience with metrology concepts.
  • Experience with problem solving techniques.
  • Experience with FAI process.
  • Advanced computer knowledge in PC‑DMIS, CATIA V5;
    Baan, C++, 5.0;
    Minitab experience a plus.
  • Experience in machining shop with various aluminum alloys, steel and titanium strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of measurements of different materials with calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Six Sigma certification a plus.
  • APQP experience a plus.
Experience & Education
  • Minimum of 2 years of CMM programming / operation experience working in an aerospace (or similar) machining environment with PC‑DMIS for CMM with indexing heads and laser trackers.
  • Experience working with and supporting Quality or Process Engineering in a manufacturing environment, preferably machining.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry preferred.
  • Certification in CMM programming or related.
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 2+ years of relevant experience.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • May be required to move items up to 35 pounds.
  • Daily duties may require sitting, standing, bending, squatting, reaching, pushing, pulling, operating, and manipulating hand tools.
  • Daily duties may require extended walking.
  • Exposed to a manufacturing setting with heavy machinery.
