Job DescriptionPurpose & Scope:
The OR Scrub Technician is accountable for the technical functions related to the patient's perioperative experience. The functions of this role include preparing the OR environment, equipment, instrumentation, and supply utilization. He/she is responsible to the circulating RN and works in concert with the philosophy and goals of the department.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience:
Three years of scrub experience is required.
Certification/Licensure:
Licensed Surgical Technologist by the Virginia Department of Health Professions required. Certification in Surgical Technology and BLS certification are required.
Physical Requirements:
The employee must possess physical capabilities in an amount equal to the physical demands made in the performance of the job, including: exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The job requires coping with mental and emotional stress, operating office machines safely, and moving patients on stretchers, wheelchairs, or beds.
Additional physical activities include bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, reaching, standing, walking, pushing/pulling, lifting, and performing repetitive motions.
Working Conditions:
Works in a well-lighted/ventilated office/clinical setting. Subject to frequent interruptions, long hours, changing shifts, and may be required to work beyond normal working hours when requested. Routine occupational exposure to infectious diseases, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids, hazardous chemicals, noxious odors, latex, and/or musculoskeletal injuries. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is supplied by the hospital for instances of exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious processes.
Involvement with patients, family members, co-workers, and visitors under all conditions, including hostile or emotionally upset situations.
