DIETICIAN

Dietitian (PRN)

The Dietitian approves menus including modified diets from Glen Oaks Hospital, provides nutritional assessments for patients as needed, and counsels patients and their families on dietary plans, food selections, preparation and nutritional principles. Monitors the performance improvement plans of the Dietary Services department and provides input in the development and implementation of patient care plans in relation to nutritional needs.

Job Duties:

• Consult with patient and family members concerning dietary needs and goals.
• Coordinate Dietary Services Department within The Joint Commission standards for food service and assist Food Service Director as needed.
• Plan modified diets for patients as requested by attending physician/licensed practitioner.
• Monitor and document patients care in regard to therapeutic diets.
• May instruct patients and/or families regarding diet therapy programs.
• Review patients' charts to determine need for nutritional assessments.
• Perform nutritional assessments in a timely manner.
• Plan and execute monthly in-services for dietary and food service employees.
• Conduct monthly inspections of the Dietary Services Department.
• Provide guidance to Food Service Director and other food service staff as needed.
• Consider the implications of the aging process in the provision of nutrition.
• Document patient charts with nutritional planning, and update as changes in nutritional needs occur.
• Communicate patient special nutritional needs to the Food Service Supervisor in a timely fashion.
• May inspect meal assembly to ensure trays conform to prescribed diet and meet standards.
• Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
• Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
• Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.
• Support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives.
• Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.
