The Research Scientist Assistant will provide comprehensive assistance to Dr. Dennis Lal and his research team by supporting day‑to‑day research activities and administrative functions. This role ensures smooth operations of research projects, compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements, and efficient coordination of resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities RESEARCH SUPPORT- Assist with data collection, organization, and preliminary analysis for ongoing research projects.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date research records, databases, and documentation.
- Support preparation of research materials, including protocols, consent forms, and study‑related documents.
- Coordinate scheduling for research‑related meetings, participant visits, and project timelines.
- Help with literature reviews and reference management for manuscripts and grant proposals.
- Prepare and process research‑related paperwork, including IRB submissions, amendments, and continuing reviews.
- Monitor compliance with institutional, federal, and sponsor regulations.
- Assist in budget tracking and expense reconciliation for research projects.
- Support grant preparation by gathering required documentation and formatting submissions.
- Serve as a liaison between the research team and administrative offices for procurement, travel, and reporting needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. biology, neuroscience, psychology, or related discipline) or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in a similar role.
- Prior experience in research or research administration.
- Experience with IRB processes and grant administration.
- Experience and knowledge of data management tools and statistical software.
- Familiarity with academic research environments and funding mechanisms.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with research compliance systems is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Based at UTA (Arlington, TX) with regular on‑site collaboration with Cook Children’s teams in Fort Worth.
- Will engage with secure computing environments, IRB‑protected datasets, and sensitive clinical data workflows.
- Office, computational, and occasional clinical–research interface settings.
