Accounts Payable Clerk

Description We are looking for an Accounts Payable Clerk to support day-to-day payables operations for an organization based in Arlington, Virginia. This contract opportunity offers a hybrid schedule and is well suited for someone who is organized, thorough, and comfortable managing invoice workflows in a fast-paced finance environment. The person in this role will help maintain accurate vendor records, ensure timely payment processing, and contribute to monthly and annual accounting activities while working closely with internal teams and external vendors.

Responsibilities:

- Review and enter vendor invoices with accurate account coding, complete support, and verified payment details.

- Examine payables documents for compliance with sales and use tax requirements as well as 1099 reporting guidelines.

- Coordinate vendor setup by collecting required tax and banking documentation and maintaining complete supplier records.

- Monitor invoice activity and keep accounts payable tracking tools and files current and organized.

- Respond to vendor questions and help resolve payment or account discrepancies in a clear and courteous manner.

- Process employee expense reimbursements and payments when coverage is needed for the Accounts Payable Manager.

- Support month-end close efforts by assisting with reconciliations and related accounting tasks.

- Contribute to annual audit preparation and assist with year-end distribution and filing of 1099 and 1096 forms. Requirements - At least 1-2 years of experience in accounts payable or a closely related accounting support role.

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Working knowledge of core accounting principles and accounts payable processes.

- Experience using computerized accounting software in a work setting.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently with strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.

- Strong customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across departments.

- Must be able to successfully complete criminal and credit background screening.
