National Newscast Producer, National News Desk

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a dynamic producer for a Washington, D.C.

-based national morning newscast. Our goal is to offer audiences on multiple platforms something different — coverage that impacts their lives and is unique to our station.

The position requires strong skills in journalism, leadership, and creativity. The candidate will assist in the day-to-day production of assigned newscasts and work closely with the Executive Producer, Director, and Assignment Desk. Responsibilities include contributing content to newscasts and digital platforms.

The ideal candidate will have solid news judgment, be a compelling and accurate writer, and be able to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

• Self-starter with the ability to generate story ideas daily
• Video editing skills for stories
• Ability to create graphics for newscasts
• Flexibility to work under deadlines and on a flexible schedule
• Contribute story ideas to editorial meetings
• Conduct interviews via phone, email, Skype, etc.
• Participate in content planning meetings
• Post content on digital platforms daily
• Other duties as assigned

• Minimum of 3 years' experience producing engaging television newscasts
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to learn and execute news strategies
• Problem-solving skills and flexibility
• Journalism degree preferred
• Proficiency with non-linear editing (e.g., Avid) and newsroom systems such as iNews
