Associate Producer, The National News Desk
We are looking for a dynamic Associate Producer for a Washington, D.C.
-based national evening newscast. Our goal is to offer audiences on multiple platforms something different – coverage that matters and that they cannot find anywhere else. The position requires strong skills in journalism, leadership, and creativity. The candidate will assist the day-to-day production of morning newscasts and work closely with the Executive Producer and Director of Content on the newscast and its content.
In this role you will contribute stories to newscasts and digital platforms, manage deadlines, and help produce an exciting and informative broadcast.
The ideal candidate will have solid news judgment, be a compelling and accurate writer, and be able to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Essential Duties and Requirements:
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills

- Ability to take direction and work efficiently during breaking news events
- Team player who works well in a collaborative environment
- Self‑starter who can generate daily story ideas
- Video editing skills
- Graphic creation for newscasts
- Ability to work under deadline and on a flexible schedule
- Contribute story ideas to daily editorial meetings
- Conduct interviews via phone, email, Skype, or other methods
- Participate in regular content‑planning meetings
- Post daily content on assigned digital platforms
- Other duties as assigned
- Position will be onsite in Arlington, VA
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience producing engaging television newscasts at commercial news operations
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to learn and execute news strategies and goals in daily newscasts
- Flexibility and on‑the‑spot problem‑solving abilities are a must
- Journalism degree preferred
- Proficiency with non‑linear editing (e.g., Avid) and newsroom systems such as iNews
