Arlington County's Department of Human Services (DHS) is hiring a FT and PT (16 hrs/wk) Psychiatrists in the Behavioral Health Division (BHD). DHS provides a broad continuum of social services, behavioral healthcare, public health, and employment programs to approximately 60,000 customers per year in an integrated, collaborative approach. DHS has a recovery and best practice-oriented mission and the psychiatrist will have the opportunity to be a part of projects which are at the forefront of mental health service delivery, including health care integration and innovative access models.

The BHD provides a range of services that promote recovery, independence, and community integration for adults with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders. These services include emergency mental health, discharge planning, medical services, case management, and linkage to other services which are provided directly by County staff or through contract, at the Sequoia Plaza offices, at community-based locations, in the County jail, in homeless shelters, and on the streets.

The full-time Psychiatrist is an assistant medical director position and the PT position will work with senior adults in the Aging and Disability Division as well as general outpatient and substance abuse in BHD.

Specific duties include:

* Performing diagnostic psychiatric evaluations;

* Ongoing psychiatric management, including psycho-pharmacologic treatment, psycho-therapeutic support, and crisis intervention;

* Assuring comprehensive healthcare needs are identified and treated;

* Providing team consultation and clinical oversight of nurse practitioners as well as participation in interdisciplinary treatment planning meetings;

* Educating clients about their illness and providing health management information

* Documenting clinical care in the electronic clinical record; and

* Providing backup physician coverage as needed to the Division outpatient services.

Minimum:

* M.D. from an accredited college or university;

* Completion of a psychiatric residency program;

* Four years' experience in psychiatry; and

* Must be licensed (or licensable) to practice medicine in the State of Virginia and be eligible to take examination of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Desirables:
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

* Board Certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology;

* Bilingual Spanish/English fluency;

* Administrative experience managing psychiatric services and providing supervision;

* Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry or Experience treating senior adults with SMI;

* Completion of fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry or experience working with Opioid and other SU disorders;

* Providing services in an outpatient community setting working intensively with patients with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders; and

* Working on an interdisciplinary team serving a diverse and chronically ill population.

Must be licensed or license eligible to practice medicine in the State of Virginia and be eligible to take examination of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Must pass a criminal background check and State of Virginia Central Registry check.

Employment restrictions:
To ensure that dual relationships are avoided and that employees who are also clients do not relate to their service provider as co-professionals, employees will not be hired by the County to provide or support services to the team or program in which they are current clients:

* You cannot concurrently receive behavioral health services from Arlington County Community Service Board (CSB) programs while employed in an Arlington County CSB program (exception Crisis Intervention services).

* At least 24 months must have passed between receipt of CSB services from Arlington County and employment in an Arlington County CSB program.
