Learning & Development Specialist; Volunteer

Black Engineers of Canada (BEC) is a Non for Profit Professional Organization geared towards providing a safe environment for Black Engineers where they can aspire and become a better version of themselves. We empower and uplift the Black Engineers community, including youth and aspiring engineers, by advocating for equitable opportunities, enhancing living conditions, and promoting mental health improvement. We achieve this through robust mentorship programs, impactful networking events, innovative educational initiatives, safe spaces for difficult conversations, and dedicated research efforts.

We are searching for a Learning & Development Specialist (Volunteer) who will handle the following responsibilities by dedicating 5 - 10 hours weekly of volunteer time.

• Design and implement volunteer-focused learning and development initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
• Conduct learning needs assessments to identify skill gaps, onboarding needs, and development opportunities.
• Support leadership development and upskilling opportunities for volunteer leaders and coordinators.

• Design and maintain volunteer onboarding and orientation programs.
• Collaborate with Recruitment and Onboarding teams to ensure a seamless learning experience for new volunteers.
• Ensure onboarding materials are clear, engaging, and accessible to diverse volunteer groups.

• Create engaging learning materials (guides, toolkits and presentations); co-create and deliver specialized training.
• Facilitate virtual training sessions, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Use learning insights and volunteer feedback to drive continuous improvement of program design and delivery.
• Collaborate with HR and relevant departments/committees to align learning efforts.
• Track learning participation and maintain accurate records.
• Attend team meetings and contribute to cross-functional initiatives.
• Provide administrative and operational support related to learning activities as needed.

• Strong instructional design and facilitation skills.
• Experience creating learning materials for adult learners.
• Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
