Professional Day and Orientation:
July 1, 2, and 3 (3rd is ½ day only). Program Dates:
July 7, 2025 – August 1, 2025.
Location:
Washington Liberty High School – SPSA Secondary Program for Students with Autism.
- Assist an individual student as a 1:1 or groups of students with classroom activities and IEP goals under the guidance and direction of a teacher or assignment given by the Office of Special Education.
- Assist with classroom and behavior management plans under teacher guidance and direction.
- Collaborate with school staff, related service providers, student services staff, and families.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by teacher, site‑administrator, or coordinator.
Experience:
Working with children from diverse backgrounds and at least one year working with students who have disabilities.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent education.
- 60 college credits from a regionally accredited college/university; or qualifying score on the Para Pro (455 or better).
- Reliable, dependable, flexible, and punctual.
- Willingness to work as a team and to take initiative appropriately.
- Knowledge of the needs of students with disabilities.

Summer School Assistants who are APS employees during the year will be paid the higher of the hourly rate or $16.68/hr retired APS Assistants will be paid $25.68/hour. Non‑APS Assistants will be paid $16.68/hour. (Salary earned during summer school employment is not included in the employee’s creditable compensation amount reported to the Virginia Retirement System.)
