Description
The Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) organization is seeking a Senior Safety Engineer. In this role, you will partner with Amazon Worldwide Design Engineering teams to ensure new equipment and modifications to existing equipment installed in operational Amazon buildings comply with all applicable codes, regulations, and standards. You will collaborate with engineering, design, and operations teams including Operations Engineering, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering, Business Operations Leaders, Field WHS teams, and other stakeholders.
Your responsibilities include leading risk assessments, reviewing equipment designs, and providing guidance on controls and devices. This role will work across engineering teams to systematically address risk identification, mitigation, and safety solutions.
This position requires travel 25-50% of the time.

Basic Qualifications- 3+ years of program or project management experience
- 3+ years of process improvement initiatives using data and metrics
- Advanced Excel (Pivot Tables, VLookUps) and SQL skills
- Experience leveraging data for improvements
- Cross-functional collaboration experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- 5+ years in safety engineering in manufacturing or production environments
- Experience working globally or with multi-country responsibilities
- Knowledge of certification bodies and standards (ISO, OSHA, NFPA, etc.)
- Understanding of company systems relevant to safety engineering
- Experience with NRTLs and Notified Bodies
- End-to-end delivery and leadership communication experience
- Process improvement and stakeholder management skills
- Process building, project management experience
- Master’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering
- Experience in distribution centers or manufacturing
- Certifications like CSME or similar
- Flexible, adaptable, and team-oriented mindset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with regulatory agencies and AutoCAD
