Job  | Amazon Data Services, Inc.

Amazon is seeking a self-starter to join the AWS Energy team to pioneer the future of data center utility power. The role defines end‑to‑end power strategy—generation, transmission, distribution, backup power—to scale and operate AWS’ diverse, low‑cost energy supply. You will manage multiple large‑scale, technically complex power infrastructure projects across geographies, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and convert new supply opportunities into tactically sound, executable energy projects while reducing capital and operating expenses.

The role reports status, risks, and successes to C‑level leadership and influences cross‑functional partner teams in the overall data center capacity delivery business process. You will own utility interactions, coordinate real estate, engineering, and planning teams, and contract with EPCs, owners’ engineers, and utilities to meet AWS’ needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive utilities strategy for AWS data centers in the AMER regions.
  • Manage multiple utilities, EPCs, and owner’s engineers to deliver MV and HV power infrastructure, including negotiations and contracting.
  • Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (utility grid connections, high voltage substations, energy storage, etc.) to reduce long‑term energy costs and manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects.
  • Work collaboratively with the Amazon CFE/RE team to support the development of strategic energy sourcing opportunities.
  • Execute electricity supply contracts that create new clean energy capacity on the grid, reduce cost, minimize risk, and leverage opportunities that benefit Amazon.
  • Manage a portfolio of complex energy projects.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and regulated utilities on the implementation and management of energy projects to meet business timelines.
  • Identify and develop innovative cost‑saving projects (capital and operational) and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and supply.
  • Responsible for completing due diligence on in‑market opportunities and developing those opportunities into cost savings for the business.
  • Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or business‑related field.
  • 7+ years working in the utility/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical role.
  • 3+ years of power transaction or contracting experience in US East (PJM & MISO) energy markets, performing financial models and analysis on rates and energy cost, negotiating interconnection agreements, and related contracts with utilities and contractors.
  • 2+ years managing multiple million‑dollar power infrastructure contracts with external stakeholders to drive projects to completion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or MBA in business, data science, public administration, finance, engineering, human resources, or related field.
  • Experience in project management including resource planning, managing schedules, reporting project status, and prioritizing own tasks and those of other team members for multiple projects.
  • Experience in data centers, infrastructure service providers, or related technology companies.
  • Experience planning, engineering, developing, or constructing substations or other 34.5 kV or greater energy infrastructure.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing innovative infrastructure and operational strategies within the energy sector, such as energy storage, demand response, fuel cells, etc.
  • Experience working directly with public utility commissions and other energy regulators.
A Day in the Life

Think like a group CEO of generation, transmission, distribution, and backup power companies. You will develop the vision, strategy, and execution plan for the future, guiding the entire energy value chain toward new ways of operating.
