The Opportunity

Design of single-story and/or multi-story structural steel, reinforced masonry, and/or reinforced concrete buildings. Foundation design ranges from spread footings to pile-supported. Design of various facade systems may be required, including pre-cast panels, curtain walls, steel and glass. Some facilities may be Risk Category V with seismic bracing of non-structural components, seismic modal analysis, in-structure response spectra, and progressive collapse analysis for three stories and higher.

Projects may involve facilities such as power plants, microgrids, command centers, pump stations, fuel loading/unloading, hangars, warehouses, barracks, Civil Works facilities, etc.

Responsibilities
  • Continues to learn and stay current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies; apply to assigned tasks.
  • Develops knowledge and independently applies it. Complies with B&V quality program; supports continuous improvement and change management.
  • Prepares a variety of increasingly complex engineering deliverables. Conducts research and makes recommendations for equipment/materials. Collects and manages data. Performs calculations following standard methods; adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Identifies and resolves problems; may provide direction to others.
  • Assigns tasks to entry level professionals and interns. Coordinates with project leadership and team members on less complex projects. Interacts with other disciplines as needed on design details.
  • Engages with external client interests and internal project leadership; may support business development or pursuit activities.
  • Shares knowledge of latest technology and processes.
  • As skills develop, may assist with performance management, recognition and corrective actions; mentors entry level professionals and interns.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program. Minimum of 1 year related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards for the assigned discipline
  • 3D structural analysis applications; linear and nonlinear dynamic analysis
  • Knowledge of USACE requirements, specifications, and design processes (e.g., UFC standards)
  • Master of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering (ABET-accredited program)
  • Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS and/or SAP
    2000) experience preferred
  • Knowledge of REVIT Structural, AutoCAD, RISA-3D, RISAFloor, RISAFoundation, RISAConnection, RISA REVIT Link, Math Cad, SAP
    2000, ENERCALC, and ETABS
  • Knowledge of precast, post-tensioned, deep foundations, structural dynamics, ATFP, renovations, high seismic analysis/design, and mission critical facilities
  • Non-Technical:
    Learning on the Fly, Problem Solving, Intellectual Curiosity, Written Communications, Drive for Results, Listening, and Managing Ambiguity
Work Environment
