Elevator Inspector

A professional, experienced vertical transportation inspector is needed to conduct detailed code compliance safety inspections and oversee testing of vertical transportation equipment at Department of State diplomatic facilities abroad. Candidates must be able to collaborate with local elevator companies worldwide and understand the elevator safety standards of the host nation.

The role requires strong communication skills, technical expertise, patience, and leadership abilities, especially when explaining complex requirements to those unfamiliar with US standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate with local resources to perform vertical transportation inspections and testing.

Travel internationally to conduct safety inspections and witness safety testing, ensuring compliance with 15 FAM 660, OBO-Elevator Management directives, and safety codes.

Witness testing of elevator safety components to verify compliance with safety codes, manufacturer specifications, and directives.

Conduct final acceptance inspections on new and modernized elevator systems for compliance with specifications and codes.

Prepare detailed inspection reports highlighting findings, deficiencies, and recommendations.

Provide technical guidance to Facility Managers and Post POC on testing and inspection requirements.

Explain safety code deficiencies to facilitate resolution.

Assess elevator conditions and compile comprehensive reports.

Lead inspection and testing processes in collaboration with facility staff and contractors.

Manage inspection scheduling, travel arrangements, and documentation.

Ensure local maintenance contractors understand scope of work and are capable of executing tasks.

Maintain inspection statistics and manage relevant databases.

Assign work orders and assist in reviewing plans and technical reports.

Support safety and technical training initiatives and present technical reports with proposed solutions.

Develop and implement elevator safety programs for various stakeholders.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Full-time professional experience in code compliance inspections of vertical transportation systems.
Certification as a Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI-1) by an ANSI-accredited organization, maintained throughout the contract period.
Proven experience in elevator inspection and testing in major US markets.
Strong initiative, judgment, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
Physical and mental resilience for global travel and diverse environments.
Mastery of elevator materials, methods, and problem-solving skills; effective communication skills.
In-depth knowledge of elevator, building, and fire protection codes related to elevator systems.
Ability to learn and apply foreign codes and standards.
Capability to manage inspection processes in varied locations with differing practices.
Proficiency in MS Office applications.

Experience Requirements by Level:

Level I: 5-10 years total experience, including at least 5 years as a QEI.
Level II: 10-15 years total experience, including at least 10 years as a QEI.
Level III:
Over 15 years total experience, including at least 15 years as a QEI.

Desired

Qualifications:

Experience as an IUEC Mechanic or Certified Elevator Technician (CET).
Experience with foreign vertical transportation codes and standards.
