This position ensures tax compliance by preparing tax returns internally, as well as compiling information necessary for outside tax preparers. The role also handles Federal tax compliance, including corporate income tax, partnership tax, and REIT‑specific tax compliance. State tax compliance—corporate income tax, partnership tax, sales & use tax, and business personal property returns—is also managed. The position researches tax issues as needed and provides support to associates on tax matters.

• Prepares Excel‑based tax packages for outside tax preparers, including general ledger information, book‑to‑tax adjustments, and other necessary data.
• Prepares in‑house tax returns.
• Performs taxable income projections on a quarterly basis and executes REIT asset and income tests for 15 REIT entities.
• Runs reports from internal accounting systems and prepares business personal property returns and business license renewals.
• Assists with miscellaneous tax filings.

All other tasks as assigned by the manager.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Tax required.

• No certification required; CPA preferred.

• Minimum 3 years in a tax‑based position.
• Tax experience with a REIT or partnership preferred.

• Displays strong time management, organization, and multi‑tasking skills.
• Performs general arithmetic to analyze complex financial and business operational figures.
• Uses basic Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Reads and writes English with clear and concise written and verbal communication.
• Creates and delivers group presentations on related subject matter and writes reports in a clear, concise form.

• Normal office environment.

• Satisfactory completion of AVB’s new‑hire orientation within 30 days of employment or the first training session offered after employment.
• Any other applicable training assigned by the manager.
