Finance Specialist – Global Science
What We Can Achieve Together The Finance Specialist supports the Director of Finance and Operations, providing highly specialized finance/accounting services to the Global Science business unit. The role independently manages the finances of several programs, including Science for Nature and People Partnership (SNAPP) and The One Conservancy Science Program (OCSP), supporting 1,000 science staff worldwide. The team develops and coordinates programs and resources that advance TNC’s conservation efforts and partners with world‑class universities to bring global expertise to ecological challenges.
We’reLooking For You
The Finance Specialist will provide comprehensive financial, accounting, and information‑management services for Global Science teammates, including:
- Collaborating on proposals and coordinating budgeting and forecasting efforts.
- Tracking and analyzing actuals and variances, and maintaining accurate accounting activities.
- Preparing reports for staff and donors, and coordinating payables with contracts, sub‑awards and other agreements.
- Providing expert private grant management support, financial guidance, and assistance to Program Directors and Managers.
- Responding to complex employee and management questions, escalating issues to management when needed, and ensuring adherence to best practices and organizational policies.
- Offering a high level of discretion, autonomy, and customer‑service focus in all interactions.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination.
- Experience with accounting/financial issues and analysis.
- Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
- Technical proficiency with spreadsheet programs, general ledger reports, and financial management tools.
- Knowledge of GAAP and fund‑accounting principles, practices and regulations.
- Formal education in accounting, finance, business administration or related fields.
- Multi‑lingual skills and/or multicultural experience.
- Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel and the ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data.
- Strong organizational skills with accuracy, attention to detail and capacity for multitasking.
- Non‑profit accounting experience and previous experience presenting financial information to cross‑functional teams, board members and high‑level donors.
This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, subject to local legal restrictions. For U.S. applicants, the starting range is $58,820 – $88,145 annually, depending on qualification, experience and location. All other applicants will receive a local currency salary based on local market conditions. Final salary will be determined at the time of recruitment.
