Job SummaryThe Medical Assistant (MA) participates in planning, providing, and evaluating patient care at the appropriate skill level. They have a duty to provide a standard of care that meets or exceeds that of a competent and knowledgeable Medical Assistant. Performs all duties at the expert level within the scope of a Medical Assistant’s practice, including operating diagnostic equipment, removing staples from superficial wounds, changing wound dressings and obtaining cultures, administering non‑intravenous medication, performing simple specimen collection via non‑invasive techniques, collecting blood specimens via venipuncture or capillary, performing EKGs, performing quality control checks on equipment, preparing and sterilizing medical equipment using the autoclave, and fostering accountability for clinical practice and patient goals.
EssentialJob Functions
- Coordinate clinic work activities and schedules, potentially across multiple locations.
- Administer clinic and Innova Care Health policies and procedures consistently.
- Operate diagnostic equipment and perform various patient care tasks (e.g., X‑rays, scribing, assisting case managers).
- Perform quality control checks on equipment and prepare sterilization processes.
- Document patient care accurately and promptly; identify and correct documentation errors.
- Coordinate patient care as directed by providers and policies.
- Respect patient confidentiality at all times and ensure others do the same.
- Organize exam and treatment rooms, stock supplies, clean rooms, and sterilize instruments.
- Assist with supply needs and enforce medication policy.
- Create and maintain an infection‑prevention environment.
- Conduct telephone and in‑person screening for intake and information gathering.
- Inventory supplies, rotate stock, and log data accurately.
- Support and follow Standard Delegation of Orders.
- Support emergency management protocols and procedures.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- Medical Assistant Certificate issued by an accredited institution licensed by the state, or one year experience in a healthcare setting with direct patient contact, or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong venipuncture knowledge and techniques.

- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
- Certification in AED and CPR.
- At least 2–3 years as a certified medical assistant.
- Preferred but not required bilingual in English/Spanish.
- Required immunizations and vaccinations.
- Ability to lift upwards of 50 pounds.
- Ability to push or pull heavy objects using up to 100 pounds of force.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
- Ability to use fine motor skills to operate equipment and/or machinery.
- Ability to properly drive and operate a company vehicle.
- Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing.
- Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving.
- Occasional exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
- Ability to discriminate shades of color when reading a dipstick.
